We don't want this to happen to you - ever! We've compiled our top three tips for avoiding this common salon SNAFU, so you can leave the salon feeling great every single time.
Tip 1: Prep yourself with a picture. It is always good practice to bring a photo. Words mean different things to different people, and while your explanation might make complete sense to you, you'll avoid misinterpretation by bringing a photo. You know what they say: a picture is worth a thousand words. Even better, bring two or three pictures of the hair style on different people. This will help your stylist pinpoint exactly what you like about the look, and it will help you to see the hairstyle on different face shapes.
While you're at it - prep yourself by primping too. It's tempting to arrive at the hair salon wearing workout clothes and a bare face for a long day of sitting in the stylist's chair, but your casual look won't match your salon-fresh style when you walk out the door. Put on a little makeup if that's your thing and at least bring a change of clothes so you can enjoy the rest of the day with your new hair with a cute outfit to match.
Tip 2: Listen to the professionals. After looking at your photo, your stylist might have some suggestions based on your individual hair type. What you have in mind might simply not be possible given the texture or body of your hair, or even your face shape. Listen to your stylist's suggestions, and never be afraid to speak up if you need more clarification. They want you to be happy.
Tip 3: Sleep on it. Particularly when making a drastic change, it's always better to wait a day or two - or better yet one at-home wash- before deciding how you really feel about your new look. Change can be uncomfortable, and you have to have a lot of trust to put your hair in the hands of someone else. Let yourself ease into a new look by shampooing and drying your own way over the next day or two. Chances are you will find that you got exactly what you wanted, but you just needed the style to translate to your own at-home method of styling, and you needed time to adjust to seeing yourself differently. If you still don't love it, absolutely give us a call, but do let yourself acclimate.
